Weekend workshops at MudFire Clayworks and Pottery Studio provide the opportunity to complement your educational experience with the dining, shopping, theatre, and nightlife options only available in a world-class city like Atlanta. Most workshops include a slide show the evening preceding the workshop that is also open to the public.
Workshops run from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday, with a break for lunch mid-day. Lunch is not provided, but nearby dining options range from fast food to very fine to quite quirky. We will have coffee, drinks, and breakfast snacks to get you started.
The best option is to purchase your ticket by phone with a credit card number. If you prefer to pay by check, please call first to confirm your reservation. 404-377-8033.
Because of our obligations to our instructors, no refund of any payment will be made for cancellations within 30 days of the start of the workshop. Prior to the 30 day limit, we will refund the amount paid less a cancellation fee equal to 25% of the total ticket price. There are no lab fees unless otherwise noted.
MudFire studio members may be eligible for an additional $10 member discount, depending on the particular workshop. These are general discount policies valid unless otherwise noted.
For those wishing to reserve early for a number of workshops, we offer a pay-as-you-go plan to spread out the payments without any interest charges. Please inquire for details and availability.
We reserve the right to cancel a workshop if minimum enrollments are not met, in which case any fees will be refunded. Notification will be made at least 30 days prior to the start of the workshop. We cannot be responsible for your non-refundable travel tickets.
MudFire Clayworks and Pottery Studio is located in Decatur, Georgia, a historic small city just 5 miles from downtown/midtown Atlanta. Over the years Atlanta has basically expanded out and surrounded Decatur, which still maintains a nice small community feel but with the cultural amenities of a major metropolitan area.
For lodging, we recommend the Holiday Inn Select ATLANTA-DECATUR. This is a nice mid-range hotel that is within walking distance of the shops, galleries, music venues and many restaurant choices of downtown Decatur. They also operate a free shuttle service that can take you to and from the workshop. 1-404-371-0204. Rates vary, it is best to check published rates online and compare it to the special MudFire rate of $109 per night. You may need to ask for the Sales Director to get the special rate if the reservations agent does not see it.
A little bit further away is the lovely University Inn with a hospitable B&B feel and a broader selection of accomodations ranging from singles to suites to furnished apartments rented by the week. The Inn is in the midst of Emory University and within a 10 minute walk of many restaraunts and shops. Their number is 1-800-654-8591, be sure to ask for the Emory discount rate and mention MudFire when making reservations. Prices range from $74-$125 typically depending on room type and season.

If you choose to stay in downtown/midtown Atlanta just five miles away, many fine hotel and inn options are available. If you have any question about where to stay, please don't hesitate to give us a call.
There are some budget motels nearby. Please call us about the one you have in mind, some are OK and some are not-so-OK. Since we would rather avoid armies of not-so-OK budget motel lawyers, we're not naming names on the web page!
MudFire is closest to the MARTA rail system "Avondale" stop also called the "E7" stop. From the south side of the station, you can take MARTA bus number 122 to the corner of Laredo Drive and N. Clarendon. You can walk one block west on Laredo on the sidewalk, we are just across the tracks on the right hand side. Please check the MARTA site to confirm the schedule and route since they do change occasionally.
