Pirates vs. Zombies
April 13, 2012
Hear Ye! Hear Ye! (... in a gutteral, drunken Scottish brogue...) MudFire will be hosting an exhibit of original clay works representing ruthless scalawags, the brain-eating undead, and conflict & rivalry between the two. (And we're not talkin' presidential primaries here.) Which is the greater pop media phenomena? Who will win the battle for your tasty heart and brains? Is it possible to escape jail without a little monkey friend? Did the scandalous rogues of the high seas help us avert a little-known colonial-era zombie apocalypse? These are the sort of anthropological questions our invited artists have been faced with.
The answer is here. Under lock and oversized key, for now. We'll kick off the contest with an artist reception on April 13, 2012 from 5:00 - 9:00 pm.
Work will be available for purchase online and in the gallery starting 12:00pm EST on opening day. Shipping is available to all 50 states and Canada.

More About Pirates vs. Zombies
Living in a pop culture over-run with zombies and pirates. No, we're not talking about the GOP primary, but to realms less dominated by fantasy...television, cable, talking pictures, design. Zombies and pirates are of course age old friends to the illustrator and bastions of low-brow culture. Never before have they been so explicitly competing for our attention as in the modern, post-Depp era.
Taken to its logical extreme, we look forward to, or rather prognosticate towards a time when these twin forces engage in a pitched battle (truly, we try not to draw explicit comparisons to the presidential primaries, but they keep creeping up). Surely human civilization would collapse in the face of such forces, frankly, and our money is on the zombies. So, just in the nick of time, we've teamed with a crack team of ceramicists...however ironic that might sound. Just prior to the dawn of the age of the undead, or wait, this sounds snappier, the dawn of the dead, we commemorate this future forever in the eternally unfading realm of ceramics. Our elite squad of clayers sets out to record the popular imagination of both zombies and pirates on illustrated clay works and sculpture. One day the aliens will visit and know definitively whence came the fall of man.
Please join to enjoy the show, before its too late.
