Josh Copus
Josh Copus is a wood-fire potter whose work combines traditional forms and processes with the contemporary art of today. His current work in ceramics draws not only on his studies of Korean, Japanese, English, and North Carolinian folk pottery, but also on the strong local traditions of craft and agriculture in his hometown in Virginia. With emphasis upon the use of local, salvaged materials and a sense of artistic community, his work represents a vision of ingenuity and self-sufficiency reminiscent of the early American folk potters.
