About the Show

MudFire Clayworks & Gallery is a nationally prominent center for clay arts located in Decatur, GA. Each year we host a giant holiday sale of locally-made, finely-crafted functional and decorative ceramics. Over 100 local artists contribute to the sale, with new artworks added daily from our on-site studio and kilns.

Fine craft is to holiday shopping as organic and slow food are to restaraunts. Buying local is an important way to go green, reducing the carbon footprint of gifts which have not been shipped from factories on the other side of the world. It also allows the buyer to to support local artists instead of buying mass produced consumables from faceless corporations who often operate without regard for the environment or the economic fate of our local communities. Recipients of handmade craft also receive an appreciation for the where, when, how and who their gift was made by, and know they have received a durable, high quality gift to pass down through the generations. There is a warmth and intimacy in the care with which a hand-crafted item is brought into being, passed from one member of the community to another in fair trade.

Buying locally-made fine craft is not just a shopping solution, it is a statement in favor of a better way to be and an investment in the future of one's community. Support for the handmade movement has been gaining momentum nationwide. There simply couldn't be a better year to be supporting the handmade/local community in Atlanta.

Housed in a renovated warehouse near downtown Decatur, the sunlit gallery stands out as Atlanta's showcase of unique and affordable pottery. For the Holiday Show, MudFire is bringing in a large selection of new work by each of the represented artists as well as juried pottery by our very own fantastically talented MudFire studio members. Work by several guest artists from around the country will also be presented.

The show will be restocked daily with new work fresh from the onsite kilns. The list of works includes (but is certainly not limited to) cups, goblets, tureens, casseroles, mugs, bottles, bowls, pitchers, vases, ornaments, Judaica, plates, tiles, platters, dogs in boats, salt & peppers, soap dishes, butter dishes, and fish! There is something for everyone with a discerning taste for quality craft and a desire to present their friends and family with a special gift this holiday season.

Quality handmade items carry the positive, creative spirit of their maker. Don't simply give a gift, pass on good energy. Handmade is always the best choice!
