Gwen Fryar Workshop
Majolica: Clay as Canvas - 2005
Gwen Fryar will lead us on an expedition into the historical tradition of Majolica glazing of pottery. Dating back to the 10th century, majolica hand-painted pottery has transformed everyday objects into multi-dimensional works of art.
Gwen will explain majolica glazes, share her recipes, and demonstrate a variety of brushwork and resist techniques. Participants will spend the afternoon experimenting with these techniques with help from Gwen. Work will be fired at MudFire for pickup after a week.
The cost to participate is $95 which includes glaze and firing fees.
Please bring two bisque-fired pieces made from low-fire clay compatible with a final glaze firing of Cone 04. If you will not have your own work, bisque tiles will be available for purchase. Please also bring your own brushes for painting with. Each piece should measure no more than 12 inches in any dimension.
10:00 am - 5:00 pm
