Ginger Birdsey brings intelligence and Southern charm to her mystical sculptures. Working in ceramics and mixed media, a gardener, mentor to kids, kayaker, beachcomber, and political junkie, Ginger's personality is reflected in the gorgeous, complex layers of her softly colored figures.

Ginger Birdsey Artist Statement
My current work is concerned with a personal need to preserve a lost moment in time, an emotionally charged memory fragment, a story from childhood, to be reorganized, transformed, and protected as it moves at rapid speed away from us.
Houses, figures. animals, and materials gleaned from the natural environment are integrated in my work. Whether surrounded within a box, resting in a cradle, poised in a doorway of a house, or standing alone, the images evoke childhood innocence and inevitable loss.
I come a family of storytellers. Sitting around a table, listening to my dad tell the family stories, time stood quite still. I am often aware that we don't hear each other in the chaotic media driven swirl of a world. The houses hold secrets and memories. I want my work to open the doors giving fresh meaning to the answers about the spiritual, domestic, and mysterious pleasures of daily life.
For 23 years, I taught art at Paideia School in Atlanta, Georgia. The children of all ages told the truth, participated in life to the fullest, and instinctively shared their secret worlds with me. Their gifts inform a good deal of my work.
