2014 Calls for Artists

MudFire Gallery announces our first several large group shows for 2014. To be sent future calls for artists via email, please click the "Signup for Our Newsletter" button to the left and make sure to check the box for calls for artists.

FACE

Invitational Group Show, 3-4 pieces each by 20 artists.

Show us your best side, your worst side, or just give us a little FACE time. We want face jugs, bowls, your best "selfie", this isn't your typical down home face jugs show - we're interested in the next generation of face jugs, mugs, bowls, etc... Send us your grotesque, your pretty, your precious - send it all!

The show will celebrate the faces we see everyday and maybe some we never want to run into in a dark alley - surprise us! Submissions can be representative work but we'd love to have new work if you are accepted into the show.

Girl Parts

Invitational Group Show, 3-4 pieces each by 20 artists.

Show what your mama gave you! Do you like to make tampon jars? How about warrior princess mugs? ceramic lipstick holders? pots with pin-ups? Then MudFire wants YOU! We'll be celebrating the female glory, in all it's silly, humorous, thoughtful, and provocative incarnations..

Timed to coincide with a workshop by Kirsten Stingle, this show will highlight a group of artists using feminine imagery in their ceramic work. Does this mean you have to be a woman to apply? NO! Just show us what "girl" means to you - are girls are sugar and spice or are they a little more sinister? We should note that our curatorial team is more focused on well-crafted studio pottery or individual wall pieces or sculptures (we don't have space for full-scale installation work).

PLATE

Invitational Group Show, 3-4 pieces each by 20 artists.

Are you tired of cup and yunomi shows? Us too. We thought it was time for the hardest working item on the table to get some love - the plate. Show us how you'd serve up a big o' plate of awesome. Functional or not, the plate is the foundation of the craft we all love.

Moving beyond simply serving show us a plate that we'd be proud to have on our table - hand-built, thrown, decorated, layered, printed, carved, show us your favorite plate!

CandyLand

Invitational Group Show, 3-4 pieces each by 20 artists.

We are seeking original clay works, ranging from beautiful studio pottery to small ceramic sculpture and combinations thereof, with other incarnations of clay also a possibility. Functional, full of purpose, or just celebrating the joy of candy - it is all up to you!

The show will celebrate the childhood glory days of CANDY - sandwiched between Valentine's Day and Easter, this show happens at the perfect time of year to turn your thoughts to candy. Are you inspired by jellybeans, Easter Peeps, boxes full of chocolates, creamy centers, candy dishes, or stories of witches luring kids with candy - show us your sweet side or your dark side. OR...simply show us the perfect candy dish - a fishbowl for swedish fish, a beautiful box for your favorite chocolate bar....and tell us your favorite candy in your application. We'll be serving up candy at the opening and we'll want to know your favorites!

How to Apply

If you are interested in being considered for one of our themed shows, please be advised that we are happy to review artist portfolios that do not directly address the theme but rather serve to convey your style, craftsmanship, and studio techniques. If you find the theme intriguing and would like to create work especially for the show, that's peachy. With your submission, please indicate "Representative Work", along with a detailed description of what you would be doing especially for the show. If you have existing work that suits the theme, wonderful! Indicate "Actual Work Submitted" in your application.

If you have an artist website with current artist information and a gallery of recent work, you may respond by simply emailing us a link along with any other information you’d like us to consider. Please make sure that the website or email note includes pricing information. You may email us your submissions to our special submissions-only email box: mudfireclayworks@gmail.com. Please do NOT send call-for-artist related material to ANY other email you may have for MudFire.

Otherwise, please send a CD with full artist information, recent images, pricing information, and any other information you'd like us to consider. You can mail the CD to MudFire, 175 Laredo Drive, Decatur, GA 30030.

There is no fee to apply. We are interested in finding artists that are new to us, as well as hearing from past friends that might be interested in the shows.
