Asheville In Atlanta
Curated by Kyle Carpenter

Six potters from the magical mountains of Western North Carolina bring their fine hand-crafted pottery to Atlanta. MudFire Pottery Center will host the show, which will run September 12 - 30. An artist reception and opening party will be held on September 12 from 7-10 pm. MudFire brings the Asheville pottery scene to Atlanta, so you don't have to drive there!

About the Show

Nestled in the mountains of western North Carolina, the Asheville area is home to a thriving community of potters world-famous for their craftsmanship and distinctive regional style. Many of the area's potters have been trained at and/or teach at the prestigious Penland School of Craft and The Odyssey Center for the Ceramic Arts.

The exhibit includes six of the region's finest potters: Kyle Carpenter, Josh Copus, Becca Floyd, Kate Goetz, Amelia Stamps, and Sam Wilson. Kyle Carpenter acted as curator, selecting the artists and coordinating on assembling a comprehensive and balanced body of work. The group is representative of the regional style, and have largely been trained and are educators in the Asheville area.

The show will include a wide selection of functional and decorative pottery, finished with traditional atmospheric firing processes including salt, soda, reduction, and wood. This diverse body of work will include teapots, platters, decorative vases, sake sets, planters, lidded jars, mugs, and many other enticing forms.

"Asheville is a very special place to us, offering the natural beauty of the mountains and the opportunity to live, work, teach, and study as members of an incredible community of potters," notes Kyle Carpenter, speaking for the group. "With this exhibit we hope to capture the essence of the regional style and bring it to Atlanta for your enjoyment. We look forward to meeting Atlanta's clay lovers at the opening reception."
