More About Asheville in Atlanta 2004
Each year, "Asheville in Atlanta" curator Kyle Carpenter invites nationally and regionally known artists from the Asheville area to participate in this celebration of finely-crafted clay. This year's exhibit includes the work of Matt Jones, Linda McFarling, Shane Mickey, Liz Sparks, Mark Tomczak, and of course, Kyle Carpenter. All six are influenced by the regional style, while clearly adding their own distinctive flavor to the mix. The show offers an incredible variety of functional and decorative pottery fired in reduction, salt, soda, and wood kilns.
"Traveling the back roads in the mountains of western North Carolina, you have the chance to meet scores of artists at work in their studios in the woods. In particular, the area around Asheville is home to an incredibly strong community of top-notch potters," explains Erik Haagensen, gallery manager at MudFire. "For this show each year, Kyle puts together something truly inspiring for us, drawing on his deep connections within the community and a clear eye for what's gorgeous."
Voted in 2003 as "Atlanta's Favorite Pottery Show" by at least several people we talked to, this show is not to be missed! Seriously.
