Annette Gates Workshop

Functional Delicacies:
Handbuilding in Porcelain

Annette Gates will help participants gain familiarity with porcelain and learn to take advantage of its inherent properties through handbuilding with slabs. The focus of the workshop will be to make a series of forms that are visually integrated, consistent in form yet uniquely altered. Participants will work alongside Annette, creating cups, saucers, cream & sugar sets, and other functional delicacies.

Annette will demonstrate her techniques for using slab construction, press molds, and templates to develop a variety of forms as they relate to function. The group will investigate the unique working properties and translucency of Cone 6 porcelain. Participants will also learn Annette's methods for activating surface and finishing with glazes.

Class size 18. Introductory handbuilding experience helpful.
